Strategic Plan

There is no question that, for the past 85 years, UT Pan American has successfully served the Rio Grande Valley. This bedrock of education has produced over 70,000 graduates.
But UT Pan American must do more than serve the Rio Grande Valley; it must transform the Valley.

Now, in this difficult economy and with our burgeoning population, is the time for UT Pan American to re-energize and to engage with our community. The future of the Valley, indeed, the future of Texas is in our hands. We must be transformative agents, and we must respond to the needs of the Valley in a targeted way, focusing on technology and manufacturing, STEM education, engineering, business and entrepreneurship, and health care while always valuing the humanities and the arts and the social sciences as well as the rich heritage of the Rio Grande Valley.

The six initiatives in this Plan are bold, but from the beginning, Pan American has been a bold institution. Through this Strategic Plan, the University will reach beyond the campus boundaries into industry, into schools, and even into individual homes. The Valley will be healthier; the economy will be stronger; and the students who come to Pan Am will be even better prepared.

The goals of The University of Texas-Pan American are achievable and the initiatives are feasible because of the University's location on the US-Mexico border, because of our remarkable and dedicated faculty and staff, and most of all because of the people in the Rio Grande Valley.

Together we will end poverty in the Rio Grande Valley and provide the first-rate education that the Valley deserves.
