Complaints of Discrimination

Students, faculty, or staff who believe they have been treated in a discriminatory manner because of race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, disability, or veteran status may file a written complaint of discrimination with the office of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action.

The Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action office reports directly to the President of the University, and is charged with investigating all complaints alleging discriminatory treatment. The Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action office will recommend corrective action to the appropriate University Official.

A Complaint Form must be completed and signed by the Complaining party when a complaint is filed with the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Office.

Complaint Procedure

Employees have the right to file a civil rights complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, EEOC, or the Texas Commission on Human Rights, TCHR. The time allowed for filing charges of discrimination is within 180 days from the date of the discriminatory act(s) for TCHR and 300 days for EEOC.

Students can file a complaint of discrimination with the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Education.
