Dr. Karen Watt earned her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin in 1999. She is currently a Professor at The University of Texas-Pan American’s Department of Educational Leadership and the Director of Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Center’s Special Research Projects Office housed at The University of Texas-Pan American. Dr. Watt has secured more than $5.5 million in grants to fund her research.

Dr. Watt has published 16 refereed journal articles and nine book chapters in the field of education, most of them related to AVID. In 2008-2009, Dr. Watt received the College of Education Distinguished Research Award and The University of Texas-Pan American College Excellence Award in Research. In 2009-2010, she received The University of Texas-Pan American Faculty Mentor Award.
