UTPA Foundation Board meets in Dallas to recognize Board chairman and UTPA president

Members of The University of Texas-Pan American Foundation Board and key representatives from the University traveled from across the country to meet in Dallas, Texas May 29-30 for the Board of Trustees meeting. Composed of 25 members spread across the nation, the UTPA Foundation Board meets three times per year to discuss its philanthropic services to support the University’s greatest needs. Veronica Gonzales, vice president for University Advancement, used this particular meeting as an opportunity to honor and recognize two phenomenal University leaders, UT Pan American President Robert S. Nelsen and Board Chairman Jaime Ramon. The two day event began with a self-guided tour through the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum located near Southern Methodist University, followed by a well-attended reception that hosted more than 50 invitees. The reception gathered members of UT Pan American’s administration and staff, friends and donors, prominent corporate donors, UTPA alumni, a former UTPA Pillar of Success, a former Pan American University regent, and the UTPA Foundation Board Trustees. Those who attended the Thursday evening reception at Café 43 mingled and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres while celebrating UTPA’s greatest successes and its many partners in education. This special event recognized the longest-serving chairman, Jaime Ramon, who joined the Board in 1988 and took his role as chairman in 2008. Veronica Gonzales and Nelsen presented a video tribute and resolution on behalf of the University to honor Ramon's committed service. Through a video tribute, Nelsen also received recognition for his loyalty and dedication to the advancement of UT Pan American and higher education in the Rio Grande Valley. Ramon presented Nelsen with a resolution in his honor at the Foundation Board Meeting the following morning. The Dallas location served as a central meeting site for the Board of Trustees and granted major opportunities to expand UT Pan American’s alumni networks and corporate partnerships.
