Former dean continues work in STEM

Dr. Edwin LeMasterDr. Edwin LeMaster, former dean of UT Pan American's College of Science and Engineering, may have retired on August 2010, but that has not stopped him from continuing his work in the STEM fields.

Today, you can find the founding father of the UTPA engineering department sharing his knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math with Rio Grande Valley educators interested in pursuing graduate degrees in the STEM areas.

He serves as a mentor and a program advisor for the Texas Graduate Center, an initiative of the Texas Valley Communities Foundation, which offers distance learning graduate programs from outstanding universities in the STEM fields. TGC is committed to assisting teachers in the program with the resources necessary to support their success.

Currently, LeMaster, who started his career at UTPA in 1970 as an assistant professor of physics, is helping facilitate a distance learning program with the Texas A&M University Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering for a master’s degree in petroleum engineering.
