Alumni Book Club

If you live in the Rio Grande Valley – and enjoy a good book and great conversation, we invite you to join us for the monthly gathering of the UTPA Alumni Book Club. Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations, the Alumni Book Club regularly draws an engaged group of UTPA alums and friends to discuss the latest selection. New members and guests of alumni are always welcome! Meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday of each month, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at various locations. BroncBuster Dinners

Good food seasoned with sage advice…that’s what area alumni are serving up through the Office of Alumni Relations’ BroncBuster Dinners program, a new tradition that matches current students with alumni who share their experiences to help the students prepare for life after college. Dinners are planned every month except June, July and August, and alumni can volunteer as mentor/hosts by calling the Office of Alumni Relations at (956) 665-2500 or emailing alumni@utpa.edu.

Broncs@Work

Where there are a number of Broncs congregating in one place, there is definitely a photo op! If you’re employed with a company or office where there are other proud UTPA alumni, gather them up and give us a call. We’ll get you some Broncs@Work t-shirts and help arrange for you to get a photo that we’ll post on our website. All you need to do is call us at (956) 665-2500 or email us at alumni@utpa.edu.

50 Year Club

The University of Texas-Pan American began a new tradition during Homecoming 2011 -- the celebration of its 50-year class. Some 31 members of the Class of 1961 and earlier grads were inducted into the 50 Year Club during a Friday luncheon as part of the Homecoming festivities in February 2011. The event will be an annual alumni happening, with graduates of the University (under any of its previous names) eligible for the 50 Year Club. Student Alumni Association

The Student Alumni Association is a volunteer open-membership organization that enhances the student experience while supporting the quality and traditions of UTPA. Originally envisioned as a means to “bridge the gap” between students and alumni, the SAA is growing into a major campus organization. Annual dues for the SAA are only $5 a year, and we welcome into membership all current UTPA students (undergraduate and graduate). The SAA provides a great way to interact with other students, alumni, faculty and the community. Some of the benefits of being a member include networking opportunities with alumni; SAA membership card that provides local merchant discounts; SAA t-shirt, car decal and other gifts; and involvement that provides students a great addition for their resumés! Alumni Band

Director of Alumni Relations Debby (Debra Willis) Grant is looking for other former UTPA musicians like herself who would be interested in creating an Alumni Band. Whatever your band instrument or section, whatever your college major, we have a place for you. All you need is your own instrument and a desire to join the band. If you don’t own an instrument, think about borrowing, renting or shopping yard sales/flea markets/want ads.
