Academic advising is required for undergraduate students before registration. Browse degree plans, see transferable coursework, or make an appointment to be advised at the University Academic Advising Center website if you are a freshmen or sophomore. Juniors and Seniors will have a mandatory advisement period through the department of their major. However Juniors and Seniors whose majors are in the College of Business and College of Engineering will receive year-round advising through their academic department. Students transferring to UTPA from another university can visit the Transfer Center for more information.
DegreeWorks is a web-based tool to help students and advisors monitor progress toward degree completion. DegreeWorks applies UTPA degree requirements to produce an audit worksheet that assists advisors and students in reviewing past, present, and future academic coursework. You may access DegreeWorks through my.utpa.edu.
Currently undergraduate students can track their academic progress using DegreeWorks. Plans are in progress for implementing DegreeWorks for graduate students.
The Texas Success Initiative requires all students to be assessed (tested) prior to enrolling in college level coursework in the areas of reading, math & writing, and to prepare an academic plan for success with an advisor. For more information about requirements and how to take the test, visit TSI on The University Academic Advising Center page. Visit The Department of Testing Services to learn more about how to sign up for the exam.
All students are expected to satisfactorily complete prerequisites for courses in which they plan to enroll.
