Q: What is the difference between Club Sports and Intramural Sports?
A: Intramural Sports is definitely a great athletic experience at UTPA, but if you are looking for the next level of competition and commitment, Club Sports are the way to go. Essentially Club Sports bridge the gap between Intramurals and Varsity Athletics.

Clubs have the opportunity to travel more, practice more, compete against better competition, and the ability to map out exactly what you want to do athletically.

Q: Who can participate in Club Sports?
A: Any UTPA student in good standing can compete with a Club Sport. Non-students can help support the team in a number of capacities, but only students can compete.

Q: Who would I compete against?
A: This depends entirely upon the club. However, most Club Sports that are created have sister clubs at other colleges and universities, allowing competition amongst them. Who you compete against is decided entirely by the club itself and what leagues or events are available.

Q: How to I start the process of creating a club?
A: The first step would be to contact the Club Sports office with a group of friends or like-minded individuals and see if it is a viable Club Sport option.  Once you have spoken with the Coordinator of Club Sports, all you need to do is become a registered Student Organization and then complete the Application Packet found on the Policies and Forms page.

Q: What are the benefits of Club Sports?
A: Some of the best benefits are the ability to continue to compete, work on leadership skills, socialize with others with similar interests, and to leave a lasting legacy here at UTPA.

The benefits of a Student Organization becoming a Club Sport are the ability to have first crack at WRSC facility reservations, the help and support of the department with regards to paperwork and other tasks, and additional funding to help with travel, advertising, and more!
