Cheer and Dance Team Tryouts:
Tryouts for the 2014-2015 season will be held on May 21, 2014 at 6pm at the UTPA Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex. Please check back later for more information.
What do you need for tryouts?
For tryouts everyone needs to fill out an information sheet as well as an Acknowledgment of Risk form. If you are under the age of 18 then you will need your parents to fill it out. Please bring a valid ID, high school transcript (for incoming freshmen), your student ID number (UTPA students), and practice wear. All hair needs to be pulled back and out of your face. How do the tryouts work?
All tryout participants will learn both a cheer and a dance during the early part of the tryout week. Jumps, tumbling, stunts, cheer, dance, and interviews are all part of the scoring criteria. Interviews will be conducted throughout the week of tryouts. Note: tumbling is not a requirement but is highly recommended.
How much do we have to pay once we have made the team?
The UTPA Spirit program is a university funded student organization. What does that mean? Uniforms, bags, poms, practice wear, camp wear, summer camp fees, and competition fees are all paid for by UTPA. Any personalized items that may be purchased throughout the year are paid for by the spirit program member.
