Purpose

The goal of this procedure is to successfully configure the Microsoft Exchange Service on any Windows Mobile Device employing the ActiveSync™ application.

Scope

This procedure is intended for all current UTPA staff and faculty with viable Exchange e-mail accounts.

Prerequisites

A viable UTPA Exchange Account must be in existence prior to configuration. Also, UTPA staff and faculty must be aware of their specific User Names and Passwords. For assistance, UTPA staff and faculty may contact the Help Desk at (956) 381-2020, or visit the IT Service Desk (ASB 1.102) during regular hours of operation (Monday thru Friday, 8am-6pm).

Responsibilities

Service Desk Staff are responsible for configuring windows mobile devices. They are located in ASB 1.102.

Procedure

1. On the Windows Mobile Device, launch the ActiveSync™ application.
2. Click on the Menu and select ‘Configure Server’.
3. For Server Address, enter ‘outlook.utpa.edu’ and make sure that “This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection’ is check marked. Click ‘Next’.
4. UTPA staff/faculty will enter their specific User Names and Passwords in the designated fields. The Domain is ‘UTPA’. Place a checkmark on ‘Save Password’ and click ‘Next’.
5. Select the items that the UTPA staff/faculty member would like synchronized with his/her UTPA Exchange Account (Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, etc.). Click ‘Finish’.
6. The Windows Mobile Device will synchronize all the selected items. The ‘Sync’ button at the bottom of the page will also do the same thing.
