Name: Changing UTPA Account Passwords

Purpose

The goal of this procedure is to successfully change UTPA Account Passwords for access to the following enterprise electronic services:

  1. UTPA Domain
    1. Managed IT Shares
    2. Managed IT Services
    3. Managed IT Computers
  2. WebCT/Blackboard
  3. UTPA Library Databases
  4. UTPA Hotmail Account (Student e-mail)
  5. UTPA Exchange Account (Staff/Faculty e-mail)
  6. UTPA wireless access
  7. Oracle Files
  8. Oracle E-Business account (Oracle 24/7 for all UTPA employees)
  9. Student Information System account (Banner Self Service for Students)

Scope

This procedure is intended for all current UTPA students, staff, and faculty members with active UTPA username and password pair for Active Directory (UTPA Domain), OID, Oracle E-business, and Banner accounts.

Prerequisites

A viable UTPA Active Directory Account is required prior to the change of any password.

Responsibilities

Service Desk Staff are responsible for changing passwords. They are located in ASB 1.102.

Procedure

  1. Open an Internet browser window and go to the web site http://www.utpa.edu/helpdesk
  2. Click on the ‘Change Password Utility’ link.
  3. Students/staff/faculty will enter their specific User Name in the ‘User Name’ Field.
  4. In the ‘Old Password’ Field, Students/staff/faculty will enter their current password.
  5. In the ‘New Password’ Field, students/staff/faculty will enter a new password which is:

    1. between the range of ten (10) to fourteen (14) characters
    2. alphanumeric, including at least one (1) capital letter, one (1) lowercase letter, and one (1) number; special characters may also be added but are limited to the following:

      ` ~ ! # % ^ & * ( ) _ + = { } | [ ] \ : ; < > , . /.

      Example – C0mp!3xPaSSW0rd
      Students/staff/faculty will also be advised that new passwords CAN NOT include any portion of their name or begin with a number or special character.

    3. In the ‘Confirm Password’ Field, student/staff/faculty will re-type the new password.
  6. Click the ‘Submit’ button.
  7. ‘Congratulations’ will be displayed if the New Password has been accepted. ‘We are Sorry’ means the student/staff/faculty will need to attempt to change the Password again, or visit the IT Service Desk (ASB 1.102) for further assistance.

Students/staff/faculty may change their UTPA Account Passwords at any time using the ‘Change Password Utility’ link at http://www.utpa.edu/helpdesk. The IT Service Desk (ASB 1.102) will also be available for assistance with User Name/Password problems or concerns. They can be reached at (956) 318-5346.
