Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to inform the UTPA community of a planned network outage.

Scope

This is intended to provide a procedure that will inform the UTPA community of scheduled wireless network outages. Network Services will notify the UTPA community of a pending network outage with enough lead time so the campus can plan for the outage accordingly. In the event that the wireless vendor issues a security bulletin regarding a current system software vulnerability, immediate correction action may lead to a narrower time frame to alert the community of a pending network outage. In every case, an effort will be made to contact the campus community.

Prerequisites

Planned or unplanned (due to emergency corrective action required) wireless network maintenance or security bulletin regarding system software vulnerability.

Responsibilities

Network services will inform the UTPA community of planned wireless network outages via Net Weather and/or Bronc Notes.

Procedure

1. Network Services will inform the campus of a pending network outage.
2. Network Services will set a time, date and duration of the wireless network outage.
