The Computer Center has five major areas of operation: Administration, Enterprise Information Systems, Operations, Systems, Distribution, and Media.
Administration
The Director of the Computer Center oversees the activities of the entire Computer Center. An Assistant Director for Enterprise Information Systems oversees the programming teams. A Quality Assurance person assures the correctness of the programming.
Enterprise Information Systems
Enterprise Information Systems has four teams: Financial Records Systems (FRS), Human Resources Systems (HRS), Student Information Systems (SIS), and Applications. Most of the team names are derived from software applications written by the SCT corporation. EIS is currently undergoing migration to software from the Oracle Corporation.
Financial Records Systems
The FRS team is responsible for maintaining and upgrading the FRS administrative software as required by SCT. FRS handles the majority of the financial accounting and reporting of the university. Major departments utilizing the FRS system include Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets and Financial Accounting.
Human Resources Systems
The HRS team primarily services the Payroll Office, Personnel Services Office and the Financial Aid Accounting Office (not to be confused with the Financial Aid Office). To a lesser degree the team also provides services to the Accounting Office, Budget Office, Grants and Contracts, Analysis and Information, Accounts Payables, and the Financial Aid Office.
Student Information Systems
The SIS team maintains and supports all aspects of the Student Information System which include Admissions and Student Records, Billing/Payment and Collections, and Financial Aid.
Applications
The Applications team maintains and supports the ASSIST services which include the student/faculty web services, the student telephone services and the student kiosk services.
Operations
The computer operators in the Operations section maintain and operate computer center printers and print queues, develop data forms, maintain, modify, and create backup/restore procedures for VMS and Windows.
Systems
The software systems specialists in Systems are our server administrators. They patch server operating systems with new software updates, perform back-up procedures on critical data files, update anti virus applications, and observe the health status of our primary computer systems.
Distribution
The Distribution window is the initial point of contact between the university and the computer center. Distribution distributes account information and reports to authorized users and departments. Account information includes Telesys, IA, Server and email information. Distribution prints reports and optically scans departmental exams and payroll timecards.
Media
Magnetic media at the Computer Center is managed by our Magnetic Tape Librarian. The Magnetic Tape Librarian stores and classifies the DLT, DAT, DDS, nine-track tapes, and Microsoft software; manages media creation; erases and cleans the tape media; maintains back-up listings and reports; and acts as a back-up for our Distribution clerk.
