Computer Support Services(Academic Services)

Computer Support Services consists of two major areas: Helpdesk and Computer Labs.

There are five areas within the Helpdesk with two focal points: the Service Desk and Call Center.

Service Desk

This is where students, staff, and faculty walk to the front window with technical questions relating to IT services, email, active directory accounts, wireless setups for laptops, etc.  Service Desk Staff work during new student orientation and transfer student orientation to help students with their accounts that will be used to log into the computers in the labs, etc.  This team also assists with installing University licensed software for employees and students.

Call Center

This is the main point of contact for computer related questions or problems with IT Services.  Calls are taken and “Heat Calls” generated with a ticket number, brief description of the problem, and contact information.  The call is then assigned to the appropriate team, who will handled your call.

Computer Labs

Our labs are constantly updated with new equipment and software packages that meet the needs of the students. We have several labs in the Academic Services building with “boundary labs” located in various locations at UTPA and two off-site labs one located in Rio Grande City and the Valley Outreach Center lab (formerly the McDonald’s building located next to the Annex).

High Performance Computing Center

We also provide technical support for our new High Performance Computing Cluster(HPCC). You can request to have access to the HPCC by contacting Robert Jackson via email at rjackson@utpa.edu
