Spam Email
The univeristy has taken measures to prevent spam within the limits of the law; however, we do not have the technical capability of preventing all spam from reaching you. So, while spam is an unavoidable part of having an e-mail account, there are ways to reduce the amount you receive.
The following are just a few examples that can help you manage unwanted e-mail:
- Ignore and delete spam messages. Please report abusive spam patterns to the university Help Desk.
- Avoid using the “unsubscribe” option included in spam messages. Removal instructions found in spam messages do not work. Instead, spammers will permanently add you e-mail address to their list or sell your address to other marketers.
- Never reply to a spam message. Replying to a spam message will alert spammers that they have found a valid e-mail address.
- Install anti-virus software and update virus signatures on a regular basis. Antivirus software is available for all students, faculty and staff. Please contact the Help Desk for instructions on how to get your copy.
- Avoid entering drawings and sweepstakes as this is a sure way to desiminate your email address to other marketers.
