Approved USB Flash Drives

Information Technology and the Information Security Office have researched a number of currently available USB flash drives for security features.

U.T. System policy requires all sensitive data, such as social security numbers, credit cards, and all other personally identifiable data on portable devices to be encrypted as prescribed by Security Practice Bulletin #1
http://www.utsystem.edu/ciso/SPB1.pdf

IT recommends the following USB Flash drive to transport and encrypt data:

Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy (DTVP) available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB.

This USB Flash drive secures 100 percent of data via 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption.

The software necessary to unlock the device does not require administrative privileges allowing it to be used in a variety of limited access environments. This device is compatible with Windows (2000/XP/Vista) and Mac OS X 10.4x - 10.5x systems.

For more information on DTVP see:

DTVP can be purchased from Staples Business Advantage, UTPA's primary office supplies provider, and other vendors.
