Freshman Housing Policy
In support of the educational mission of the University and the value of on campus residency to the academic success and social development of students, freshmen having earned fewer than 30 semester credit hours (excluding credit hours accumulated through Advanced Placement and concurrent enrollment), who are enrolled for nine or more semester credit hours during the fall and/or spring semesters are required to reside in a University-owned residence hall.
Students who meet one or more of the following criteria are exempt from the freshman housing requirement.
- Permanent U.S. residency is within a 60 mile radius of the University
- Be residing with an immediate family member (parent/legal guardian/sibling) living within a 60 mile radius of the campus
- At least 21 years old
- Completed over 30 semester credit hours (excluding Concurrent Enrollment and AP credit hours)
- Other (Note: Please provide a detailed explanation and appropriate supporting documentation that demonstrates your need to be exempted from the mandatory freshman housing policy)
All students requesting exemption must submit a form. Requests to be exempted from the Freshmen Housing Policy must be supported through documentation. To request an exemption form please contact the Office of Residence Life.
