What are my payment options?

Is there a deadline for applying to student housing?
No, but space is limited. The earlier you apply, the better chance you have to secure a room in the Residence Halls or Bronc Village.

When will I know my housing assignment?
We will send out assignment by mail on July 15th. Reservations received after that day will continue to be assigned weekly until capacity has been reached. At that time, a waiting list will be generated.

I have been placed on a waiting list? What does this mean?
Once capacity has been reached, a waiting list will be generated and students will be placed in the order the completed reservation was received. Residents will be notified by phone and mail as their status on the waiting list changes and are assigned to a room. We receive cancellations and changes throughout the summer. This allows us to place most of those on the waiting list into a room. Please be patient.

If my friend and I want to be roommates, what should we do?
It is important that both of you specify that you want to share a room or apartment on your Housing Application. It is very difficult for us to make changes once students have been assigned.

When will I know the identity of my roommate?
You will receive the name and phone number of your roommate along with your room assignment. We encourage all residents to make contact with their roommate prior to arriving to the University. This will give you a chance to get to know your roommate and talk about what each of you will be bringing so that large items such as televisions and refrigerators are not duplicated.

If I am unhappy with my room or roommate, can I change?
You may change rooms or roommates after the twelfth day of class, depending on space availability. Contact your Residence Hall staff or the Office of Residence Life.

Where do I park and do I need a parking permit?
There are designated parking areas for residents’ vehicles. All students will need a permit if they plan to park on campus property. Residents can purchase a resident parking pass at the UTPA Police Department.

What happens if any of my personal property is stolen?
The university is not responsible for students personal property.  We highly encourage all students to make sure their room doors are locked, bicycles are properly secured, and all actions are taken to ensure the safety of your property.  We also encourage students to purchase Renter's Insurance to ensure that if something were to happen that your property is insured.  This is not available through the university.
