The ACT-Residual is an institution exam offered to prospective UTPA students as a college entrance exam only. The multiple-choice tests cover four skill areas: English, Math, Reading and Science. You must have applied or be enrolled at UTPA.  ACT policy states that ACT-Residual scores be sent to UTPA only. They will NOT transfer to any other school or university.

You must register a minimum of ONE WEEK in advance, but are encouraged to register earlier due to limited seating. Registrations are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis and *standbys are welcome. . 

Test Fee: $50.00. We gladly accept checks and money orders.  NO CASH OR CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Please remember to bring the following items on test date:

• Valid photo identification card. You WILL NOT be permitted without a valid photo ID. Examples of acceptable forms of identification can be found on www.act.org.
• Approved calculator. Please visit www.act.org to see a list of approved calculators.

*STANDBYS are never guaranteed a seat. If you are interested in coming in as a STANDBY, you must show up on the test date with the following items:

• MONEY ORDER in the amount of $50.00. NO CASH, CHECKS, or CREDIT CARDS will be accepted as payment for standbys. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• Valid photo identification card.
• Approved calculator. Please visit www.act.org to see a list of approved calculators.

SCORES will be made available for the examinee usually that same day. A photo ID will be required to obtain scores.

RETEST POLICY: Examinee must wait 60 days to retake this exam.

Institutional TOEFL

TOEFL is required of students graduating from a high school in a country where English is not the native language. UTPA policy requires that institutional TOEFL scores be sent to this institution only. For more information on International Student advisement please call 956/381-2972.

You must register a minimum of ONE WEEK in advance, but are encouraged to register earlier because seating is limited and registrations are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Checks or money orders only.  NO CASH OR CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  STANDBYS are welcome.

Test Fee: $40.00

Please remember to bring the following items on test date:

• VALID passport or visa. If you are a US Citizen you may use a VALID Texas Drivers License or State ID.
• TOEFL Institutional Testing Program Examinee Handbook. (Not given until time of registration)

*STANDBYS are never guaranteed a seat. If you are interested in coming in as a STANDBY, you must show up on the test date with the following items:

• MONEY ORDER in the amount of $40.00. NO CASH, CHECKS, or CREDIT CARDS will be accepted as payment for standbys. NO EXCEPTIONS.
• Valid photo identification card. 

SCORES will be made available for the examinee usually that same day. A photo ID will be required to obtain scores.

RETEST POLICY: There is no waiting period between Institutional TOEFL exams.

Quick THEA

IMPORTANT NOTICE: In September 2003, the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) replaced the TASP Exam with the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment) & ACCUPLACER Exams. If you were not exempt from TASS or TAKS at your high school and your ACT score was below a 23, then you are required to be assessed with THEA or ACCUPLACER. THEA is a paper/pencil exam that measures Math, Reading and Writing skills. TSI requires all students to be tested prior to enrolling in college level coursework in the areas of reading, math and writing. For advisement on TSI please contact the TSI office at 956/381-2529.

Test Fee: A $10.00 registration fee will be required upon registration.  We gladly accept checks or money orders.  NO CASH OR CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Please make checks/money orders payable to U.T.P.A. In addition a $29.00 exam fee will be paid on the day of exam. This fee must also be paid with a check/money order or credit card. NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED. Please make the $29.00 fee payable to: National Evaluation Systems.

Registered examinees please remember to bring the following items on test date:

• Valid photo identification card. You WILL NOT be permitted without a VALID photo ID. Examples of acceptable forms of identification can be found on www.thea.nesinc.com. 
• A basic four-function non programmable calculator. Scientific  or graphing calculators will NOT be accepted. Cell phones may NOT be used as a calculator. 
• A check/money order or credit card in the amount of $29.00 made payable to N.E.S. 

*STANDBYS are NEVER guaranteed a seat. If you are interested in coming in as a STANDBY, you must show up on the test date with the following items:  

• A money order ONLY in the amount of $10.00. Cash, checks or credit cards MAY NOT be used for the $10.00 fee. 
• A separate check, money order, or credit card for $29.00, a valid photo identification card and a basic four function non programmable calculator.

SCORES will be sent to you and the schools or universities you selected by mail approximately 10 to 15 days after you have tested.

RETEST POLICY: Examinee must wait 30 days to retest for a Q-THEA. This policy also applies if you have tested at another institution.  Students who retest before the 30-day limit will have their scores canceled and their money will not be refunded.
