The UTPA Ally program is dedicated to providing support to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning individuals (GLBTQ) at the University. Allies include students, faculty, and staff who display an Ally place card outside their office/residence hall room or have an Ally button. This sign identifies them as individuals who are willing to provide a safe haven, a listening ear, and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people or anyone dealing with sexual orientation issues.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to become Ally's by attending a three-hour training on issues affecting the GLBTQ community and heterosexism. At least one training is held each semester which is sponsored by the Empowerment Zone, for a list of trainings please call (956)316-7005 or visit UC322.
