Your Senate

What does your Student Senate do?

-Formally report, present and or address SGA student issues / concerns.

-Listen and formally document concerns from fellow students.

-Vote to approve or deny: legislation (Bills and Resolutions)*, position appointments, and Special Fund Requests.

Structure of Your Student Senate:

Chair (Vice President of the Student Government Association)

-The Chair resides over the Student Senate and facilitates debate and discussion as out lined by Roberts Rules of Order and the Student Government Constitution and Bylaws. It is the responsibility of the Chair to place items on and distribute the agenda at least 3 (three) days in advance of the next scheduled Student Senate Meeting.

Secretary:

-The Secretary is an officer position of the Student Government Association filled by an appointed Senator of SGA. The Secretary’s role is to record the minutes of each Student Senate meeting to provide an accurate record of what occurred during the duration of the meeting.

Sergeant at Arms:

- The Sergeant at Arms is an officer position of the Student Government Association filled by an appointed Senator of SGA. The Sergeant at Arms role is to call and keep a record of the roll of the members of the Student Senate and send out notifications concerning unexcused absences as out lined in the Student Government Association Constitution and Bylaws.

Standing Committees:

Fiscal Operations

All legislation concerning expenditures must go through this Committee.

The committee may recommend approval, modification, or rejection of

legislation concerning expenditures. Its jurisdiction shall include matters

relating to the following areas: appropriations and Student Government

Association budget.

Personnel

This committee may recommend to the Student Senate approval or

disapproval of Presidential nominations for appointments. This

Committee shall present the case to the Student Senate against a student

Senator for failure to perform his or her duties and may recommend

sanctions against that senator. This committee shall conduct training for

the Student Senate on Robert’s Rules of Order and other topics as deemed

necessary.

Public Relations

This committee shall have jurisdiction over the planning and conducting

of all Student Senate sanctioned University special events. This

committee shall promote public relations with students, faculty,

administration, and the community. This committee is responsible for

recruitment for the Student Government Association.

University and Community Affairs

This committee shall have jurisdiction over the researching, coordinating

and execution of Student Senate sanctioned issues. This committee has

the authority to organize forums for the purpose of addressing

constituent’s issues.
