What information is required to sign up for AlterNetRides?
- You will need a valid email address.
What information will other riders see when they search for rides?
The List Rides screen will show which group you belong to, how often you would like to ride to campus and the starting point (i.e. city, highway) that you have indicated. You can also input additional information in the comments box. Please do not disclose any personal information, such as phone numbers or addresses in this form. Should I be worried about information protection?
- At first, you will communicate with other riders through the AlterNetRides website. You can remain anonymous and not give out your address, last name and phone number until you are comfortable disclosing it to another rider. ONLY SHARE INFORMATION THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY AND ONLY UNTIL YOU ARE COMFORTABLE ENOUGH WITH THE PERSON(S) YOU ARE POSSIBLY MATCHING WITH. SAFETY SHOULD ALWAYS BE YOUR PRIORITY.
- How does the AlterNetRides service?
When you find a possible ride, click the Possible Match/Email. You can send an email to that person and both rides are flagged as having a Possible Match. When an profile is flagged, a new button appears on the Member Information page that will list all Possible Match rides. After you have made a successful match with another rider, return to the page and change the status of your ride to Matched! Found a Ride! If you do not change your status, you will continue to get emails from others looking for a match. You may leave the status if you are interesting in ride sharing with more than one person.
Can I post a one-time trip?
- Yes! You can have several rides posted at one time, including one-time trips.
What about safety?
- You are ultimately responsible for communications with other riders and your own safety. This is part of the Terms and Conditions that you accept when you create an account.
