2009-2010 Cheerleading Tryout Information
Listed below is information regarding the tryout process for the University of Texas Pan-American Cheerleading Program. Specifically, you will find information regarding the Cheer Team rules and responsibilities, the live and video tryout procedure, tryout material and score sheet, and tryout information sheet. Please review this information thoroughly.
- Eligibility – To be eligible for the team, you MUST be accepted to the University or have applied to the University prior to the live tryout date on April 17th, 2009. Failure to do so will delay or negate your tryout process. To expedite this process, be sure to submit your UTPA application and fee, all academic transcripts, and a copy of your SAT/ACT scores to the Admissions Office by March 20th, 2009. You can also apply online at www.utpa.edu/admissions.
- All incoming and returning team members, who meet the requirements, are eligible to apply for the Cheer scholarship.
- Live Tryouts – Live tryouts will be held on April 17th, 2009 and April 18th, 2009 at the Wellness and Recreation Center on campus. You must attend both days. If you plan to attend, please email the Head Cheer Coach, Misty Brown, at mlbrown@broncs.utpa.edu by April 15th, 2009. Be sure to include your name and a contact phone number.
- Please bring your cheerleading resume (if you have one), a copy of your health insurance and a current photo of yourself to the first day of tryouts.
- Please note that there will NOT be a Spring Floor.
- Video Tryouts – If there is a conflict with the tryout date you can submit your tryout by videotape, DVD, or YouTube. Please refer to the Tryout Procedure and Tryout Material format for detailed information/requirements and arrange your video accordingly.
- All tumbling performed on a spring floor will NOT be scored.
- If you are submitting a hard copy video, only VHS tapes and DVD-Rs will be accepted (No CD-Rs allowed).
- All video submissions must be received by April 16th, 2009.
- Tryout Results – Tryout results will be posted promptly after tryouts on April 18th, 2009. It is recommended that you are present when the results are posted. We will have our first team meeting immediately following the posting of the results.
- Accommodations – If you need accommodations while in Edinburg, please email Misty Brown at mlbrown@broncs.utpa.edu for recommendations.
