Mirta Feal Rodriguez

Mirta Feal Rodriguez joined the UTPA counseling staff in 1996. She came to us from Hidalgo ISD where she worked 15 years providing individual and group counseling services to junior high school students. In addition to counseling, she was responsible for the coordination, implementation, supervision and interpretation of all state mandated testing. She enjoyed providing classroom presentations on topics of Personal Safety, Suicide Prevention, Peer Pressure and Sexual Assault. She consulted with parents, faculty and administrators to coordinate services in order to meet the educational needs of the students. Ms. Rodriguez is a Teacher certified Psychology Instructor and School Counselor.

At UTPA Mrs. Rodriguez provides individual, group and couples counseling to college students. She also is active in providing classroom seminars in various topics to students, staff and the university community. She was instrumental in introducing and implementing the National Mental Health Screenings of Depression, Eating Disorders, and Anxiety at the center which are held yearly. Mrs. Rodriguez has also served in various committees at the University and volunteered as a Staff Instructor for the course UNIV 1301.

Mrs. Rodriguez enjoys working with college students and helping them work through their personal issues. She has a special interest in women's issues, spiritual and religious conflicts, relationship issues and anxiety disorders. She loves to read, travel, scrapbook, and organize family events. She is active in her local church where she serves as a deaconess, coordinates the church's scholarship fund, and teaches a Bible class. She is also active in local political campaigns and charitable organizations.

Mrs. Rodriguez graduated cum laude with her B.A. in Psychology from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland. She received her M.A. in Counseling and Guidance from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.
