Kim Loan Nguyen-Finn, MA, LPC

Kim Loan Nguyen-Finn

Kim has been with CaPS since 1999 and provides counseling and therapy services for a wide range of personal, mental health and career concerns. Areas of particular interest to Kim include anxiety disorders including OCD and panic disorder, sexual identity, dating and domestic violence, personal safety, and spiritual issues.

Kim has conducted workshops and presentations for both the university and community at large on topics such as Women's Self-Defense, Career Exploration, Tolerance and Diversity, Transition to College Issues, Handling Student Crises (for Faculty, Staff, and Resident Assistants), and Stress Management. She has stayed active in the campus community through work as a Staff Senator and as a member of various institutional committees. In addition, she is the team coordinator for the UTPA Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISMT).

Kim received her Masters of Arts in Education with a concentration in Educational Psychology/Guidance and Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1998, where she studied the unique needs of Mexican-American youth in the lower Río Grande Valley and the special needs of women at the community college level. Kim earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1995 from UTSA also, where she studied Sociology and Philosophy in addition to Psychology. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and an LPC Board Approved Supervisor. Kim is also certified as Senior Coach for PRT (Psychological and Physical Resistance Tactics), a women's self-defense program.
