QPR Suicide Prevention
"Ask a Question...Save a Life!" Question, Persuade, and Refer is a useful recognition and referral tool to help prevent violence in the form of suicide and self-injury by teaching participants how to recognize warning signs of suicide and depression and providing them the tools to persuade an at-risk individual to get help. As the most preventable cause of death, but the second leading cause of death among college students, suicide is a significant public health problem. As most people who are having thoughts of killing themselves do not seek professional help on their own but instead communicate signs to those they know personally, training such as QPR is vital for everyone.
UTPA has over two dozen faculty and staff members serving as QPR trainers. This 90 minute training program is available to groups of faculty, staff, students, and members of the surrounding community. For more information on QPR, go to the QPR Institute website at www.qprinstitute.com.
