About Upward Bound Program
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves first generation students and students who meet income guidelines set forth by the federal government. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
The UTPA Upward Bound program serves 148 students from three target schools in Hidalgo County including Mission, J. Economedes, and Edcouch-Elsa High Schools. Upward Bound provides academic instruction in mathematics, laboratory sciences, composition, literature, and foreign languages. Students meet for 9 Saturdays during the academic year and 6 weeks in the summer.
