CAMP Services

Camp Admissions Application Assistance

The CAMP Staff is available to assist CAMP Applicants to complete CAMP application forms; to locate testing centers for the THEA and ACT tests; and to register for UTPA classes. For application assistance, call the CAMP Office (956) 318-5333 or email the CAMP staff at CAMP@utpa.edu.

Financial Aid Application Assistance

The CAMP Staff is available to assist CAMP Students, CAMP Applicants and CAMP Alumni in preparing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). They are also available to assist CAMP Students and CAMP Alumni in locating and completing additional scholarship and internship applications and in writing recommendation letters.

Academic Advising

The CAMP Academic Coordinator advises CAMP applicants, current CAMP students and CAMP alumni concerning class schedules, TSI requirements, and “satisfactory academic progress”. The Academic Coordinator also coordinates the tutoring component for CAMP and monitors the academic performance of CAMP students. Peer Tutoring

In order to obtain and maintain high academic success, each CAMP participant is required to attend peer tutoring. Tutoring requirements are dependent upon each CAMP participant’s current academic standing and TSI requirements. Personal Counseling/Life Skills Seminar

The CAMP Counselor provides personal, academic and career counseling in an  individual and group setting. CAMP students attend weekly Life skills Seminars, which focus on many issues that first year college students experience. The counselor assists students with financial aid applications, scholarship searches and university internship placements. Educational/Cultural Field Trips

The CAMP program encourages CAMP students to attend field trips during the academic year. CAMP students are invited to attend campus cultural events such as plays, concerts and cultural events. Monetary Assistance

The CAMP program provides financial assistance to CAMP participants in two areas. CAMP participants, in “good standing” with the CAMP program, may receive a monthly stipend.  A minimum of 20 students are assisted with university housing. Parental Involvement

CAMP recognizes that parents have a strong impact upon the success of their children. Therefore CAMP program provides several events for parents throughout the year to assist them in supporting their son or daughter. In the spring, CAMP students and their parents are provided with a workshop to help with the financial aid process for the following year. Also, CAMP parents are invited to celebrate their sons’ and daughters’ accomplishments at the end-of-year awards banquet.
