Introduction

Radiation

The Radiation Safety Program provides comprehensive health physics support service to The University of Texas Pan American community. The radiation safety mission is to assist in maintaining safe and healthy settings for research and clinical activities. The program fulfills this mission by assisting the institution's Radiation Safety Committee, performing routine laboratory inspections, providing personnel, area and environmental monitoring, and responding to emergency situations.

Safe Handling Precautions for Isotopes Used at UTPA

Training

Radiation Safety Training is required for all personnel who work with radioactive materials , x-rays sources or lasers. Training is conducted on an "as needed" basis for laboratory principal investigators and their respective employees. Contact the DEHS to setup a training class. Personnel who do not work specifically with radioactive materialsbut work in the laboratory are required to attend awarensss training.
