This program establishes the requirements which shall be applicable to all contractors who perform work on the University of Texas - Pan American. It is acknowledged that the contractor is responsible for the safety of his or her individual employees, but UTPA also recognizes that contractor safety can in some cases directly affect its staff, faculty, and students. Consequently, UTPA assumes the responsibility for the proper selection and ethical relationship with that contractor.

The objective is to guide contractors to establish and maintain an accident prevention program which eliminates accidents to contractor personnel and property.

Training

The contractor shall provide training for employees, and such training should include but not be limited to:

1. Disclosure of potentially dangerous conditions in the workplace.
2. Provide any explanation of how to perform the work safely.
3. Provide through demonstration as to the proper operation of personal protective equipment

Adequate programs should comply with OSHA or TSDH hazard communication standards, hearing conservation standards, resource conservation recovery act, and other standards applicable to the contractor's work.
