Introduction
The University of Texas – Pan American (UTPA) is committed to protection of our faculty, staff, students and community through careful analysis of all research, clinical, and educational activities involving the use of radioactive materials both ionizing and nonionizing radiation producing devices, infectious biological materials and recombinant DNA (rDNA) occurring at, or affiliated with UTPA .
The Institutional Radiation and Biological Safety Committee (IRBC) reviews, approves, and oversees all research, clinical and educational activities involving the use of radioactive materials, both ionizing and nonionizing radiation producing devices, infectious biological materials and recombinant DNA at the University of Texas Pan American. This process provides guidelines that ensure appropriate procedures; equipment, facilities, and training are adequate in conjunction with the risk.
