Thermal Energy Plant

Thermal Plant

The mission of the thermal energy plant is to, in conjunction with physical plant, provide a comfortable, cost effective, and sustainable environment; one in which the UTPA community may work and study, facilities may remain operable, and mission-critical equipment may function throughout its useful life.

The Thermal Energy Plant (TEP) is charged with the effective and efficient production of chill water which is mission-critical for the cooling of most UTPA buildings. To this end, TEP staff operates, maintains, and acquires chillers and chiller-related equipment on and off-campus.

The TEP is charged with oversight of the institution’s Energy Management Plan which encompasses energy savings strategies through cooperation with all the respective divisions

The TEP remotely schedules, controls, and monitors air conditioning equipment and building ambient conditions for UTPA. The energy management system is the premier electronic tool that the TEP staff operates and maintains to accomplish the functions mentioned above.

The TEP provides energy management services which include utility procurement and contract maintenance.

The TEP is a radio base that works in conjunction with central scheduling, DEHS, and campus police in the communication, coordination, and dispatch of air conditioning and life-safety services. It is also the after-hours command and control center for UTPA.
