Student Course Evaluations

Policies and Information

UTPA policy (HOP 6.2.1) requires that student evaluations be conducted at the end of each semester for every course offered. All UTPA faculty are evaluated by their students for every course they teach. These evaluations become an integral part of the faculty review process during annual evaluations, for merit-based salary increases, and for tenure and promotion.

 

Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS OPINION SURVEY OF COURSE/FACULTY

STUDENT SURVEYS SHOULD BE ADMINISTERED BEFORE THE LAST DAY OF CLASS.

INSTRUCTOR

  1. Advise students to use a No. 2 pencil (NO PENS) on the answer sheet. Surveys bubbled in ink cannot be scanned.
  2. Administer the student Opinion Survey at the beginning of class period. Select a student in the course to serve as monitor for administering the survey.
  3. Provide the student monitor with the packet containing the pre-printed surveys and brochures.
  4. Instruct monitor to put ALL contents back in envelope including the brochures.
  5. Leave the room during the administration of the survey. Allow approximately 20 minutes of class time for completing the form.
  6. After the evaluation is complete, make sure the student monitor fills and signs the signature card in the envelope. Retain the top (white) copy for your records; the pink copy should be placed in the packet with the evaluations.
  7. Please emphasize to the student monitor that the surveys should be deposited IMMEDIATELY. Evaluations received after the last day of class will not be processed.

STUDENT MONITOR

  1. Give each student a survey form and brochure.
  2. Ask students to follow instructions very carefully and instruct them as follows:
    1. Use a No. 2 pencil on the answer sheet. DO NOT WRITE on brochures.
    2. Read the brochure carefully and follow the instructions as printed.
  3. When all students have completed the surveys, collect the surveys and brochures. Please return all materials together, including the completed forms, brochures and blank forms.
  4. Inform the instructor that the Opinion Survey has been completed.
  5. Fill and sign the student signature card in the envelope, detach the white copy and give it to the instructor, put the pink copy in the packet with the evaluations.

DROP OFF INSTRUCTIONS & LOCATIONS

DAY CLASSES: Deliver sealed envelopes as soon as surveys have been conducted, to the one of the nine drop boxes located across campus (listed on back page), or to the Office of Academic & Faculty Support Office, Southwick Hall Room 211.

NIGHT CLASSES: Deliver sealed envelopes as soon as surveys have been conducted, to the one of the nine drop boxes located across campus (listed on back page).
