SAM Program
The Sophomore Academic Mentoring Program assists second year students in reaching their academic goals by being mentored and guided by UTPA junior and senior students. Junior and senior mentors serve as “voices of experience” in order to support sophomore students in successfully completing their second year in college. Please read through our content within the site to get a better understanding of what our program offers. Thank you.
Leading the Way for Sophomores
The Division of Academic Affairs celebrates the success of the University Retention Advisement Program's (URAP) Sophomore Academic Mentoring. Now in its fourth year, SAM has expanded with mentors (junior and senior students) each guiding 17 sophomore protégés within their college. As role models, Mentors not only offer academic encouragement and guidance, but they also encourage their protégés to join them at social and athletic events on campus. To enhance their knowledge of the educational process at UTPA, mentors attend presentations sponsored by various campus departments and receive training by their Student Development Specialist supervisors.
