The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Alumni Honor Association at UTPA, chartered in 2002, recognizes college students with excellent scholarship and character and provides enrichment in four hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. It has more than 1,100 chapters in all 50 states and some 80,000 members abroad.
One of its principal objectives is serving a mentorship role to two-year college chapter members transferring to senior institutions. Members assist the transfer students in their social and educational adjustments to the rigors of university life and encourage continued scholarship for PTK Honor Society members to ensure a smooth transition as well as continued academic success.
All PTK Honor Society members in good standing who complete a transfer admissions application and enroll as full-time students at UTPA are eligible to apply for the UTPA PTK Transfer Scholarship. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must have a cumulative 3.5 GPA, submit a one-page personal statement and be active member in good standing with PTK. Application submission deadline for the fall semester is May 1 and the deadline for the spring semester is October 1.

The Valley Scholars Program was established in 1997 to recognize and promote academic excellence by providing financial assistance, academic support services, mentoring, and leadership development to academically gifted and highly motivated students. The program provides a foundation that empowers students to excel in their academic achievements and to become leaders that will make significant contributions to their communities. Students are actively engaged in community service projects. This is our way of giving back to our community that graciously supports our students.
Valley Scholars who have completed their two-year program at South Texas College and are transferring to The University of Texas-Pan American are eligible to receive financial support. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, and be a certified Valley Scholar from South Texas College. Application submission deadline for the fall semester is May 1 and the deadline for the spring semester is October 1.
