SEEL Welcome

I am Dr. Ken Buckman, Associate Provost of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning and I want to welcome you to the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning. The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning is a distinctive community of faculty and student scholars within the larger university community at The University of Texas-Pan American.

The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning is designed to offer enterprising students an holistic approach to learning that embraces a comprehensive range of hands-on, research and experiential learning opportunities, such as student/faculty collaborations, internships, undergraduate research opportunities, global experiences, public service, in addition to project and field experiences where students "learn by doing." Through the Guerra Honors Program, the Office of International Programs, and the Office of Undergraduate Research, SEEL provides students a rich, comprehensive, and engaged undergraduate experience.

SEEL stresses academics, research, service and individual development; our mission is to lead students to academic and professional success as well as personal fulfillment. UTPA education prepares students to lead and innovate in a world which is defined by a global economy and contemporary issues that transcend national boundaries. Such a global education includes international experiences which challenge students to live and work with people from other countries and cultures. Through these experiences, students learn to understand and value multiple perspectives and how to communicate within and adapt to a culture other than their own. UTPA is committed to creating an effective learning environment for undergraduate students. From interactive lectures and recitations to hands-on projects, teamwork, and problem-based learning, the goal is to help students better understand important ideas and master crucial intellectual skills and to kindle curiosity and excitement. Students gain the fundamental knowledge and problem solving skills needed to prepare them for a lifetime of learning and leadership.
