Study Abroad in Turkey!

Studying abroad is a great way for Guerra Honors Program (GHP) students to expand their education in unique and exciting ways.  Exposure to other cultures and places transforms us immediately and powerfully, offering experiences and modes of learning that simply do not happen in traditional classrooms.  A peculiar heightening of intellectual awareness and heightening of the physical senses occurs when we become a stranger in someone else’s land. This not only educates us but also changes us with new insights, experiences, and opportunities. Travel writer Miriam Beard drives this point home: “ Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
The next Guerra Honors Program Study Abroad in Turkey is scheduled for the Mini-mester, May 12 – June 2, 2013. Space is limited, so students need to sign up early. Importantly, only students who commit to the entire study period may participate.
A detailed list of criteria and application procedures for students wanting to participate in this study abroad can be found here.
Students participating in this study abroad will be enrolled either HONR 3388 or 4388. The syllabi for these course will be posted soon.
The cost for the 3-week Study Abroad trip includes 3 credit hours tuition, airfare, instruction fees, lodging and breakfast, transportation, and a Study Abroad fee.  Guerra Honors Program Scholarships will be awarded by the end of February, and International Women’s Board and International Education Fee scholarships will be awarded shortly after. Information about these various scholarships can be found here.
Applications may be obtained from the Guerra Honors Program website or picked up in SBS Room 104. For more information about this study abroad opportunity, please contact:
