From the desk of the Interim Vice Provost for Research
Prepare, Discover, Transform. These three words epitomize the goals of the University of Texas-Pan American. Our faculty and students constantly discover new knowledge. It is the mission of the Office for Research Administration (ORA) to facilitate and support research. As a leading learner-centered research institution, UTPA's faculty, students, and administration work together to promote a culture of innovation, invention,and entrepreneurship.
The UTPA Office of Research Administration is the academic office that oversees the direction and guidance of the University’s research mission. It is responsible for policy formation and oversight related to the research process as well as training in the ethical conduct of research. The ORA promotes the creation and maintenance of a university environment that maximally encourages and supports research productivity. In addition, the ORA coordinates patents and technology marketing rising from inventions by University Faculty with the UT system.
Within the Office of Research Administration is the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects. Its staff supports the whole campus in the identification and acquisition of external funds and provides oversight for pre and post award administrative on behalf of the university. Also within the ORA is the Office of Innovation and Intellectual Property which manages the disclosure of inventions and discoveries made at UTPA, leveraging these assets to the benefit of society through entrepreneurial and commercialization activities.
