What We Do
The Office of Technology Transfer works with faculty, staff and students to educate, guide and facilitate the legal protection of intellectual property resulting from research and scholarly activities at UTPA. The office evaluates invention disclosures filed with the office and determines the commercial viability and the patentability of the intellectual property. The office identifies strategies for legal protection and markets technology for commercialization through licensing to existing companies or by facilitating startup companies. The office encourages, promotes and supports an entrepreneurial culture on campus and works with faculty to facilitate the execution of appropriate legal instruments to encourage collaboration with the private sector.
