History of the Center
The University of Texas Pan -American at Starr County begins its 11th year in Starr County with a new name and a new state of the art facility located on FM 3167 adjacent to the South Texas College Starr County campus. The facility, consisting of three buildings, includes classrooms, a computer lab, a curriculum resource area, and a multipurpose room.
Courses offered are mostly those required for a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with specialization in bilingual education. However, criminal justice and interdisciplinary areas, such as Spanish are also offered. Master level courses in education leadership are offered at least once a semester.
The majority of the students enrolled in the EC-6 bilingual generalist curriculum consist of teacher aides with local school districts who qualify through the Teacher Aide Exemption Program. The schedule is from 4:30 – 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday to accommodate the needs of working students. Faculty is comprised of both university professors and local public school educators and administrators.
