This test preparation course is designed to help college students that are preparing to take PCAT (Pharmacy College Admission Test). This course includes 40-hrs of classroom instruction with 2-full length practice tests. The instructors of this course are all experienced university professors with expertise in their respective areas of PCAT preparation. Please see the instructor biographies below for more information. The subject areas covered in this course include Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, Biology, Quantitative Ability, and Verbal Reasoning/Critical Thinking. |

Instructors*: Dr. John Villarreal (General Chemistry)Dr. Villarreal is a Professor of Chemistry and currently serves as Assistant Dean of the College of Science and Engineering. His research specialty area is the molecular spectroscopy of strained organic and heterocyclic ring systems using infrared and Raman spectroscopy. He teaches courses in general chemistry, physical chemistry and organic spectroscopy. Dr. Villarreal has been at UTPA for 34 years.
Dr. Jose Gutierrez (Organic Chemistry)Jose J. Gutierrez received his B.S. degree in chemistry from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico, in 1988. He joined the University of Texas at Dallas in 1997, and received his doctoral degree in 2002. He became a post-doctoral fellow in the UT-Dallas NanoTech Institute and the chemistry department of the same university. From 2002 to 2004, he studied the development of new polymeric materials and their composites with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for various applications. In 2004 he was appointed Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas Pan-American, where he has taught courses in the area of General and Organic Chemistry. He is currently conducting research in the area of synthesis of organic materials for applications in electronics.
Dr. Mark NoeMark Noe is an Associate Professor at the Department of English at UTPA. He teaches a wide range of writing courses, from Freshman Composition and Technical Writing, to Advanced Academic Writing for graduate students. His most recent project was the revision of the website for The Essentials of Technical Communication for Oxford University Press.
Mr. Aaron D. Bell (Quantitative Ability)Mr. Bell is a Learning Specialist of Physics, Chemistry, and Mechanical Engineering. He has been with The Learning Assistance Center at UTPA since 1994 where he provides tutoring to students enrolled in Physics, Chemistry, and various Science and Engineering courses. Mr. Bell was a high school Math and Physics teacher prior to joining the university.
Mr. Michael Heep (Biology)Mr. Heep was a part time lecturer for General Biology and Human Anatomy & Physiology with the Biology Department at UTPA from 1989-1999. He has been with the Learning Assistance Center at UTPA since 1981, providing tutoring for students enrolled in all Biology, Chemistry and Physics courses. * The list of instructors and scheduled classes are subject to last-minute change due to time conflict and/or availability. |
