UPDATE: EFFECTIVE BEGINNING FALL 2010
Health Insurance for all:
The University of Texas System has instructed all campuses to ensure that students participating in approved study abroad programs "have appropriate health insurance coverage for the duration of their time abroad" (July 22, 2009 Memorandum).
To facilitate this directive, the UTPA Office of International Programs has contracted with MedEx, an International medical insurance company, to provide a high quality, low cost plan. Your program advisor will assist you with the paperwork and provide a cost estimate for your stay.
Part of the plan:
The program cost for each UTPA study abroad program will include the cost of international health insurance. Students participating in exchange programs, independent research or independent coursework abroad will also be required to purchase international medical insurance.
It's a Plus!:
Additionally, all students are strongly encouraged to maintain their U.S. health insurance coverage in case treatment is necessary upon return to the states.
