Personal Statement

Shirley Rombough Picture I grew up in Southern California, and I earned my BA in Sociology from Cal State at Long Beach, CA, and my MSW and Ph.D. in Sociology at Louisiana State University. I have extensive social work practice experience, and have taught at the university level for a number of years.

My interests include performing in and listening to opera, as well as water sports, such as scuba diving and water skiing.

My community interests include working on the board of directors for Hope Family Medical Center. Participation in fund raising, program contributions and grant writing have constituted some of my involment with Hope.

Professional Interests

Social work and sociological theory, macro practice, micro practice, especially learning more about the recent developments in psychodynamic theory, women’s issues, including women in politics, and the social welfare institution.

My recent resarch interests have let me to interview a number of local women holding elective political office. The findings will be submitted to a journal before the fall 2009 semester.
