1. Who will be my faculty advisor?
As part of the admissions process you will be assigned a faculty advisor. If your acceptance letter does not identify your faculty advisor, please contact the BSW Program Director.2. Who will advise me before I get admitted into the BSW Program?
The BSW Program Director will be your contact person and interim advisor.3. How many hours are needed to complete the BSW Program?
Under the 48 hour General Education Degree Plan, the requirement is 124 hours of which 54 hours are advanced.Under the 60 hour General Education Degree Plan, the requirement is 124 hours of which 51 hours are advanced.
4. How many hours are needed to complete my BSW Field Education Internship?
A minimum of 480 hours (four days a week for one semester) must be completed.5. When is the Deadline for submitting the BSW Admissions Application?
There is no deadline for the BSW Admissions Application. You are encouraged to apply for admission into the BSW Program after you complete the Introduction to Social Work Course and after completing the University College Requirement – see UTPA Catalog for details.6. Can I substitute courses?
Requests for course substitutions are handled on a case by case basis. It is essential that you consult with your faculty advisor. The substitution process starts with your advisor. Your advisor will ask you to prepare a letter that provided justification for your request.7. Will my social work and human services courses from STCC transfer to UTPA?
In addition to STCC’s Introduction to Social Work and the Social Welfare course, there may be other social work and human services courses that also transfer. Please direct questions related to course transfers to the BSW Program Director.8. Which Biology courses do I have to take?
The required courses for Biology are Biol. 2403 - Anatomy and Physiology I and Biol. 2404 - Anatomy and Physiology II.
