Welcome

Welcome to the University of Texas – Pan American (UTPA) / University of Texas at Austin (UTA) College of Pharmacy (CoP), Cooperative Pharmacy Program (CPP) web site. We are happy that you have decided to visit with us to learn about the CPP and pharmacy profession!

To describe a little about the CPP, UTPA in cooperation with the UTA CoP offers a six-year curriculum leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. The PharmD degree is the sole entry-level degree offered in the Unites States for those interested in becoming a licensed pharmacist. The PharmD is a professional doctorate designed to prepare pharmacist practitioners to provide patient-oriented care in contemporary settings including but not limited to community practice, hospital environments and long-term care facilities.

The UTPA CPP was developed to encourage students from the Rio Grande Valley and Laredo Regions to consider pharmacy as a professional career. The CPP offer students the opportunity to complete pre-pharmacy and pharmacy curriculum at UTPA and in the surrounding Rio Grande Valley.

The CPP offers two pathways, an early admissions pathway intended for high schools students, and a transitional pathway for students enrolled as pre-pharmacy majors at UTPA. Students admitted into the CPP are afforded conditional admission to the UTA CoP upon successful completion of pharmacy pre-requisites and other CPP requirements.

Another CPP exists in El Paso, involving the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and UTA CoP. It is the goal of both CPP (UTPA and UTEP) to ensure that students residing along the Texas – Mexico border region have access to pharmacy education.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the CPP!
