The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA)

Student Occupational Therapy Association The Student Occupational Therapy Association at the University of Texas-Pan American was established in 1996 to provide a foundation for occupational therapy students to interact with each other and share ideas about the field of occupational therapy.

As a nonprofit organization, SOTA's mission is to generate service, interest and awareness to the community of the Rio Grande Valley. SOTA strives to promote unity within the Occupational Therapy field at a local, state, and national level, while providing services to groups and organizations in the community. Through active participation members will experience leadership opportunities and learn the importance of giving and its rewards.

The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA), offers members and people interested in the field of occupational therapy, opportunities to engage in community and on-campus activities. SOTA provides its members with current information on occupational therapy and its professional organizations. We also present guest speakers in or related to the field of occupational therapy.

SOTA participates in a number of activities during the year. Some of these are:

  • The Texas Occupational Therapy Association-Mountain Central Conference
  • American Heart Walk
  • Adopt a Bench @ UTPA
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • American Diabetes Association Walk
  • Sponsoring a child during Christmas
  • Cinco de Mayo Celebration @ UTPA
  • SOTA provides OT guest speakers!
