You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or above and take at least one Honors course each semester.
Being a member of the UHP has many benefits, both tangible and intangible. Guerra Honors Program students enjoy…
- Small class sizes that promote interaction with outstanding faculty.
- Enrichment through special events such as local and national speakers, professional seminars, and community service projects.
- Eligibility to join Eta Omicron Nu Honor Society (HON).
- Extended lending library privileges.
- Educational travel opportunities through the Honors Study Abroad Program.
- Honors Program scholarship opportunities.
- Notation on your transcript and your diploma that you have completed the University Honors Program
Admission to the Guerra Honors Program is not automatic. However, students are encouraged to apply to the program based on several academic criteria including class rank (ranked in the upper 10 percent of high school class), high school weighted and unweighted grade point averages (a 90 or above average in high school academic -- English, Math, Science, and Social Studies -- courses), SAT scores (1100 and better), and ACT scores (24 and better). An application may be picked up at the Guerra Honors Program Office (located in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Building, room 104) or downloaded in PDF format from the UHP website.
While you maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher and continue to make progress toward your required hours and course work, you remain active and in "good standing" with the GHP. If your GPA falls below 3.00, you are no longer eligible for participation in the GHP. If your cumulative GPA falls below 3.30 but remains above 3.0, you will be placed on probation (no exceptions) and have one semester (Fall or Spring) to regain a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher. If at the end of that semester you have not achieved a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA, you will no longer be able to participate in the GHP. If, however, you subsequently raise your GPA to a 3.30 or better, you may apply for readmission to GHP.
Yes, you may. Generally, students with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 after the first semester and/or first year are encouraged to apply to join GHP.
