Psychology
By the end of their degree, it is expected that Psychology students will be able to:
- Demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology.
- Understand and apply basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry, and, when possible, the scientific approach to solve problems related to behavior and mental processes.

Minor in Psychology
18 semester hours of Psychology, of which 6 must be advanced, including PSY 1310 (Introduction to Psychology).

Major in Psychology (BA Degree)
Requirements listed in the 2007 - 2009 Undergraduate Catalog. For students admitted to the University Fall 2007 or later requires 124 total hours.
To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, students must complete:
- 48 semester hours in General Education.
- 9 hours of college core classes.
6 semester hours of two separate social science disciplines outside of psychology
3 additional semester hours in either the same language as the core curriculum language or three hours of communication
- 16 semester hours in core psychology courses (PSY 1310, 2401, 3325, 3343, and 3353).
- 15 semester hours in elective psychology courses.
- A minor or a second major in another program.
- At least 124 hours of coursework, including a minimum of 51 hours of upper-level (3000/4000) coursework.

For Students admitted to the University Fall 2008 or later, or for students admitted earlier who opt to follow this plan, the requirements for a Psychology BA are listed below. Requires 120 total hours.
To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree is Psychology, students must complete:
- 43 semester hours in General Education ( not including any psychology ).
- The UTPA language proficiency requirement.
- 16 semester hours in core psychology courses (PSY 1310, 2401, 3325, 3343, and 3353).
- 15 semester hours in elective psychology courses.
- A minor or a second major in another program.
- At least 120 hours of coursework, including a minimum of 51 hours of upper-level (3000/4000) coursework
