2009 APSA Ralph Bunche Summer Institute accepting applications!
The deadline for the 2009 APSA Ralph Bunche Summer Institute closes on Friday, February 27, 2009.
All application materials must be postmarked by this date.
Named in honor of the 1950 Nobel Peace Prize winner and former APSA President, Ralph J. Bunche, the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute (RBSI) is a 5-week, academically intensive summer program designed to simulate the graduate school experience, provide mentoring, and expand academic opportunities for students from under-represented minority groups and those students who are interested in broadening participation in political science by students from underrepresented minority populations and pursuing scholarship on issues affecting under-represented groups.

Travel Enrichment Program to Havana and Santiago, Cuba
Proposed Travel Dates: Dec 13-Dec 23, 2009 OR Dec 30-Jan 10, 2010
Cuba has been hit by several major hurricanes over the last 2 years. Therefore this program is a humanitarian effort to help Cubans still dealing with the aftermath of these natural disasters; travelers on this trip are required to bring donatable items such as toiletries, non-prescription pharmaceuticals, non-perishable food items, and the like. All travelers will meet with Cubans working with humanitarian efforts on the island. Each person can carry up to 22 lbs of donations.
Planned itinerary also includes: Plaza de Armas, Plaza de la Catedral, and Plaza Vieja, Fábrica de Partagás, two-part Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Malecón, Plaza de la Revolución, the capital in Havana, Univ. de Habana, beaches; La Sevillana, Parque Céspedes, the Basilica, Parque Histórico, El Morro and much more. See where Hemmingway hung out, and the ship that Castro used to launch the Cuban Revolution.
Proposed Cost: $3000-3600 per person
Who Can Go: Faculty, staff, students, and community member may travel. It is NOT required that travelers are registered for class at UTPA for this trip. U.S. passport required for U.S. citizens; foreign nationals need passport from their country of origin.
