- Congratulations Michelle Piszczor for being nominated for the Best Undergraduate Research Paper Award at the Southwest Social Science Conference in 2008. Her paper was on the topic of global warming; in this paper Michelle provided innovated solutions for global action concerning the challenges presented by global warming. Michelle worked under Dr. Sonia Alianak with a research and travel grant from IGkNU. So, congratulations also go to Sonia! Michelle is currently studying law in Chicago.
- A paper presented by Dr. Jessica Lavariega Monforti at last year’s 2008 Western Political Science Association meeting has been selected to receive the "Best Paper on Latino/Latina Politics" award from the WPSA.
- Congratulations to Erika Flores, who was awarded a 2008-2008 Undergraduate Research Initiative grant from UTPA. This award enabled Flores to travel to the 2009 Meeting of the Western Political Science Conference in Vancouver, BC Canada to present her paper entitled “Latinas and the 2008 Presidential Election” with Dr. Lavariega Monforti.
